Green Marketing 101: Ask for an Action Step

May 27th, 2014 No comments

What Steps Are You Asking Your Customers to Take When Doing Green Marketing?

green marketing should encourage taking one step instead of a whle list

Austin, Texas: When promoting your business or organization, are you asking your customers to take an action step or are you just doing random green marketing?

If you are simply handing out promotional products without an action step, then you are just contributing to the global waste stream.

Whether they are recycled promotional products or even organic promotional products, without encouraging an action step is a wasted opportunity to promote your green agenda.

All of your green marketing and outreach materials should be encouraging your customers to take ONE actionable step that can help reduce their carbon footprint.

Ask for just one green action step.

Offering too many choices will only confuse your customers or discourage them from moving forward now.

Don’t offer a To-Do list.

Just one action step at a time.

Try it on your next promotional product giveaway.

What one action step will you be telling your customers to take right away?

Happy Green Marketing!

Green Marketing 101: Marketing To Students

June 5th, 2012 No comments

Recruiting Students Through Green Marketing

recruiting green studentsAustin, Texas: I often get asked what is the best way to reach high school and college students for advertising and marketing campaigns– and the answer is to use green marketing.

The current class of high school and college students has been raised on environmental education since they were in kindergarten.

They are savvy on the issues of alternative energy, sustainability, recycling, going green, green marketing — and yes, even green washing.

A large percentage of students are actively seeking employment with organizations and businesses with strong sustainability goals.

Businesses that practice good stewardship of the planet are looked upon more favorably by the majority of these students — so why not promote your strongest traits.

If your organization is green –DON’T HIDE IT!

Make it your strongest selling point in attracting and recruiting these students.

Use eco-friendly promotional products when going to college fairs, as well as for all marketing efforts.

Using recycled pens , recycled backpacks and recycled journal books, as well as providing organic cotton or bamboo shirts for staff promotes your organization’s commitment to the environment and avoids mixed signals.

Promote your green initiatives.

Be sure to blog about green issues and your green programs.

These students want to know why you are green..how you are green and what you are doing to become more green.

Share your green purchasing mandates.

Share your stewardship ideals.

Students that care about the environment are interested in learning more.  They want to know the why’s and the how’s.

Give them a wealth of information and let them decide what they want to learn more about– not have you filter it for them.

There has never been a better time to be a green organization.

Promote green.

You will get a better candidate for your efforts.

Here’s to a green tomorrow, today!
