Choosing the Right Green Promotional Products: Quantity vs Quality?

With Earth Day Just Around the Corner, Should You Choose Quantity or Quality for Your Promotional Campaigns?

green promotional productsAustin, Texas: The frantic calls are starting to come in each day for Earth Day promotional items.

My first four questions are always:

1) Who will you be giving these gifts to?

2) What is your goal?

3) How will you be distributing these green promotional items?

4) What is your promotional products budget?

Once you know the answers to these 4 questions, you can then determine the right gifts for your audience and event.

Quantity vs. Quality?

It is an age-old decision.

Is one strategy better than the other?

Well, I’m a big proponent of measuring the ROI (return on on investment) of your promotional product spend.

Meaning, I like for ways to measure the effectiveness of your promotional products so that they can be viewed as a marketing or advertising expense rather than just a trinket or giveaway with no perceived value.

The best way to measure the ROI of your promotional products is to have a call to action.

Perhaps that call to action is to have the recipients go to a website to download a report, or white paper, make a purchase or to sign up for a newsletter.

Create a specific URL (landing page) that is promoted on your promotional items and see how many responses you get compared to the total number of items you had handed out and your expenditure.

I like a tiered approach–such as a low-cost promotional item for mass handouts, but a higher end promotional product for taking an action step.

So, for example, you can give away a recycled pen or recycled Frisbee to everyone who comes to an Earth Day event.  But if they sign up for your seminar, place an order, take the next action step, etc–they can get a nicer green promotional products–such as a recycled USB flash drive or recycled backpack.

So, quantity vs. quality?

I think you can do a little of both to maximize your promotional products ROI.
